Exceptional care shown to stranded people in Langley

The level of concern by employees of numerous businesses for a stranded family was truly exceptional and noteworthy.

Editor: I would like to relay an amazing experience that I had in your community. On June 23, our day went from a relaxing voyage home after an amazing weekend in Victoria to total disaster, in a matter of seconds. Our van broke down in a late evening downpour as we entered Cloverdale.

We called BCAA for help, who connected us with Clover Towing. As Kirby, one of the trusty evening drivers for Clover Towing pulled up, little did we realize that our disastrous evening was about to turn into an amazing story.

Kirby was calm, thoughtful, and super helpful. He listened carefully to our story, determined our needs, and then just took over in the midst of disaster, to work his magic.

In short order, he helped me sort through an overwhelming amount of information from BCAA about mechanics, hotels, and taxis. With his GPS in hand, he helped me to make clear decisions about what I needed to do for our ailing van and discouraged family.

As if by magic, a taxi appeared to whisk my family off to our selected hotel. Kirby and I delivered the van to A & B Transmissions, then I too was delivered to the hotel.

Kirby was careful to ensure that I knew where food and other services were located near the hotel, and also checked that I would be able to find my way back to the transmission shop.

That night we were able to sleep a bit more restfully, because of how Kirby made us feel that all would work out.

The next morning was amazing. The staff at A & B Transmissions, realizing that we still had a long journey ahead of us, ensured that our van was dealt with very quickly that morning. The staff at the Days Inn were super understanding, and helped us in many ways to be comfortable until our van was repaired. Kirby’s attitude of care and understanding seemed to be everywhere.

What has struck me about this situation is the attitude of caring at every business we dealt with. I think this speaks volumes about the people and businesses of Langley.

At a time when each could have just carried on with their day, they all stopped to take the time to understand and meet our needs in an understanding manner.

Thank you to everyone who helped us at Langley Taxi, A & B Transmission, The Days Inn, and especially Kirby from Clover Towing, for making our unexpected stay in Langley and amazing experience. It isn’t very often these days that you get to experience genuine caring when dealing with the business world, and to experience that with every business we dealt with in your community, speaks volumes.

You have something special going on, and we will be back to experience more of what Langley can offer. Thank you.
