A decalitre of prevention is worth a gigalitre of cure. Strategically situated on the road to Kingfisher are 45 gallon drums of water with five-gallon buckets beside them, with the word fire on them.
What a great idea. Twice in my life, I have come upon small fires starting along the roadside for what ever reason. Luckily both times, I had some equipment to help get them put out quickly. One time, I had an eight-foot, two-by-six in the back of my truck which was very effective in pushing dirt on to the flames and whacking out the fire. Another time, I had a shovel which worked well too.
How hard would it be to have a fire extinguisher in the trunk of our cars?
I realize we can and still should immediately call 1-800-663-5555 toll-free, or *5555 on a cell phone to report fires and not put our lives at risk, but quick action could stop a disaster. Of course prevention is the key and not so gentle reminders to people engaging in dangerous behaviours is well warranted.
