hy do we continue to pay for fire department increases for fire inspectors, when time is taken up with Sooke Triathalon, community radio, fireworks for Canada Day and staff to manage, also staff members organizing events to take place at the Prestige to cover the $300,000 per year, plus the costs of the event itself?
What was the cost incurred by the District of Sooke for the April convention? The true costs including staff time to prepare as well as costs from the hotel?
Why is the fire department organizing the Sooke Triathalon? This is a private group. How much fire staff time is taken up with outside events, including the recent triathlon in Sooke, the community radio station, Sooke Ozone building and attending the games and the setup and take down and also at the Rotary, Communities in Bloom, etc.?
Perhaps if the time was all spent doing the fire department work, we wouldn’t have to look at another fire inspector and reduce the full time postitions of paid firemen.
In the 2010 report the chief says that due to so many activities and duties there was no time to work on the fire deparment master plan. What is the priority here?
In the report above the chief is looking for someone from Royal Roads to do his job while he takes up his time with the community events at our expense.
Time for council to take things in hand and direct the CAO, to keep the staff directed to the jobs they are paid to do.
