Flea collar danger

Last July, I bought a flea collar for our cat. It seemed like a benign purchase at the time. Two decades ago, with a different cat, a collar had worked quite well.

Our family was not prepared for what came next. Within a few hours of wearing the collar, our pet began to drool and wobble on his legs. Although we took it off immediately, his condition worsened. He purred and otherwise seemed happy, yet he didn’t recognize his name, could barely stand or walk, and would not eat or drink anything.

Thanks to the support of Dr. Simon at Parksville Animal Hospital, our cat is still with us. All four members of our family worked day and night for weeks, not days, to hydrate and feed our feline with a syringe. Very gradually, he became his delightful self.

If you are a pet owner with a flea problem, I urge you to use veterinarian-recommended flea treatments and learn from our horrible mistake.
