This letter is in response to the article that appeared in last week’s paper entitled “Boat access only” which described the flooding of Sowchea Creek, and the effect on the residents in the area.

In that article, it was mentioned that government and Regional District emergency services were slow to respond. I want to make it abundantly clear that neither I, my family, nor (I believe) my neighbours, have any criticism whatsoever for the individual representatives of organizations that attempted to assist us during our time of crisis.

We fully understand that there are specific protocols and procedures that guide and govern employees and volunteers that work within these organizations.

Any criticism we may have is strictly directed at governmental systems that consistently fail people in northern rural B.C. communities by inadequately addressing the unique needs of the people living in these areas.

We are very grateful to all who tried to assist, but whose hands were tied. To those of you who went out of your way to lend us so many helping hands, we are entirely grateful to you, and we feel truly blessed to have had you at our sides. You lifted us when we needed you. Thank you.
