To the Editor,
I agree completely with Chris Alemany. Without rail, our town and port will never have “the legs” it needs to move forward.
Our city, harbour and port have so much potential. Trucking to and from vessels in Port Alberni is not a viable option; never will be with our location, far from Nanaimo, one lane winding mountainous highway that can’t feed or sustain our port.
The transportation hub for containers onto barges might be fine, but that would still be happening some 30 nautical miles from Port Alberni, leaving the port empty.
Where is the vision and foresight that looks beyond just three or four years to see an incredible opportunity that would bring prosperity and jobs for the community and the province at large?
Walt Kusmin,
