From your food bank

Annual message emblematic of the start of the festive season

It is that time of year again when the Community Harvest Food Bank makes it appeal to the greater community.

The food bank works hard to offer a variety of different services to  those members of our community who may require a little bit of extra  help. Some of these services include, but are not limited to, the provision of the following:  hot meals, food hampers, emergency housing/clothing, paid medical expenses, utility bills, rent, and damage deposits.

All of our programs are run by volunteers and our space is donated by St David’s Anglican Church. We are a member of the BC Food Bank Association and on average we make nearly 600 meals and hand out up to 150 hampers every month.

The Food Bank relies on community donations and is grateful for the huge support that it has received in the past. The success of our agency is because of you, our community, our business folk, and, of course, our industry; and we have nothing but gratitude for your donations.

So please be so kind as to dig deep and give generously over the Christmas season. Cheques can be mailed to 301 32nd Street, Castlegar, BC V1N 3S6 , or dropped off at the Food Bank located at 614 Christina Place. I can be reached at 250-608-2227. We believe that we are making a difference in the lives of others.

Our Christmas Hampers are going out on December 21 and we are anticipating 275-300 hampers. And, thanks to the Castlegar firefighters and you, new toys will be dispersed to hamper applicants.

We hope you come out to the CPR Holiday Train, the Miracle Marathon and the many other events taking place in the community.

I’d like to thank you in advance for your support and wish you all  the very best this Christmas season and a healthy and happy 2014.
