It was a season of ups and downs for the Save-on-Foods Oceanside Generals — winning streaks, losing streaks and even some hefty suspensions to this local Junior B hockey team.
Yet, when it came to the playoffs, the Gens didn’t disappoint.
When many fans might have thought the local squad would make a quick exit in the first round of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League playoffs — they proved us wrong. And in a spectacular style.
Coming back from two games down to win three in a row to get out of the first round was simply amazing — an unexpected surprise.
For this young team to get into the second round is testament to their dedication, hard work and development over the season. They were determined not to let the year end so soon.
That goal, however, came to an end Sunday night at the hands of the Victoria Cougars. Victoria swept the Gens in three games — but it wasn’t easy.
Two overtime games — including Sunday night’s game three — were needed to dispatch those pesky Generals. All in all, the Gens did what they could to push Victoria to the limit.
Congratulations to the Oceanside Generals for yet another plucky post season. We look forward to seeing this young team return next season, on the hunt for more.
