After spending nine years teaching English in China, I came home to Canada and in November located to beautiful Parksville.
I am so happy to be back in Canada, breathing the free, fresh air of this community.
I am also searching for employment, as are the many people I have met at the Parksville Career Centre.
It seems that there is a forgotten demographic in this community and I am part of it. This demographic is the over-50 person who is seeking employment.
The Career Centre has been very helpful, yet employment still eludes many of us. I do understand that training young people benefits the future of B.C., while my demographic group would bring a wealth of life experience to an organization, and this creates a kind of ‘Catch 22’ situation.
Employers, please give equal consideration to workers of all ages.
