As I sit here at the computer on Thanksgiving Day, I realize that I do have much to be thankful for. It makes me a little sad to think we need a special day to recognize all the blessings/good things in our lives but hey, if that’s what it takes.
I’m thankful for the opportunity to live in this beautiful valley and get to know some really wonderful people.
This past week we at The Valley Echo were thrilled to present the Invermere Companion Animal Network (ICAN) with a cheque for over $13,800, the proceeds from The Valley Echo Giving Back golf tournament. It was a long time coming but these funds give the group a solid base to build on in their quest to create a new shelter for the many cats, kittens and small animals that come into their care.
The tournament creates a lot of hard work for a number of people. I want to take the opportunity to recognize Cindy Levagood for the many, many hours she put in, in support of this fundraiser. She wasn’t alone, of course, but she really raises the bar for volunteers when she’s passionate about a cause. I have worked with a large number of volunteer groups and many more people. Cindy takes on more than most, and delivers every time. Thank you Cindy! And thanks to all the other volunteers who contributed what they could. I would especially like to thank the golfers that took part in the event and all those that bid on the auction items. I am grateful to you all and delighted to call Cindy friend.
Hey — the Rockies got a point on the weekend in a thrilling overtime loss in Golden. I tell you, these boys are on the verge of something great. They are young and they’ve been playing all season with a very short bench. A little experience and a few more bodies will make a huge difference to the outcome on the ice.
Yeaaaa! Curling is starting! The Link to Rink event is Friday and Saturday this weekend, please do what you can about the forecast for lousy weather on Saturday.
