Re: GMO leaves a sour taste, Letters, Sept. 3.
I was interested to read that Robert Wager, a laboratory demonstrator at VIU, supports GMO technology and that “all of the alleged dangers of GM crops and food have been analyzed by global experts and dismissed.”
Which “global experts” would these be? The ones that either sharehold or work for Monsanto? To date, I’m unaware of any conclusive studies done that prove GMO food isn’t harmful to us.
Why is it that during the rapid growth phase of GMO crop development, between 1992 and 2002, the U.S. Department of Agriculture spent $1.8 billion on biotech research and less than one per cent of this on safety testing?
Why is it that a U.S. proposition calling for labelling of GM food was defeated by companies that raised $45 million? These companies are, in part, Campbell’s, Kraft, Quaker Oats, Unilever, Coca Cola, Pepsi Cola and Nestle.
Let’s get a more complete picture.
