Dear Editor,
Proponents of a crossing at 29 Street are quite correct as to location.
Anyone who has endured lineups on the Dyke Road will attest to the need for another crossing. Their proposed methodology leaves much to be desired.
We don’t need an ugly causeway or bridge.
The ideal solution with higher initial cost but less long term maintenance needs, is a tunnel.
The technology for this is well established. Prefabrication in sections of any length can be made at any remote location and floated in and sunk at high tide into excavated ditches of an appropriate depth and joined section by section.
Disturbance of the estuary is minimal and temporary. Attractive and unobtrusive entrances can be constructed at both entrances.
You can be sure that both federal and provincial governments would be delighted to shoulder most of the cost.
