Government profits in taxes with Malahat use
As I have mentioned before in regard to the much-commented on Malahat, our numerous governments are not the least bit interested in an alternative, although for practicality purposes it would be most sensible to begin installing a mono rail from Johnson Street up as far as Nanaimo down town core.
Notwithstanding the deplorable driving standards of many drivers and their lack of attention to the task at hand, it must be, for the government, a wonderful cash cow: items such as gasoline, tires, oil, annual licences, body shops, various parts for repairs. It is a no brainer. The lord only knows what profit is amassed in the rake-off, by using this wonderful Malahat highway 12 months a year. A rail line hasn’t a look in at any worthwhile taxable returns.
Therefore another proposal could be, extending the lower road access along the water through Bamberton. It is feasible?
