Greater good roundabout

On the one hand Steve Anderson noted that it is easy to turn from 19A onto Village Way and therefore a roundabout would be a waste.

On the one hand, in his letter, (The NEWS, Sept. 23) Steve Anderson noted that it is easy to turn from 19A onto Village Way and therefore concludes that a roundabout there would be a waste.

Perhaps he is not a golfer and never tried to cross 19A from Country Club Rd, or perhaps not a tradesman with trailer heading for Parksville, or even a senior citizen trying to return from Qualicum with shopping, only to find his view of 19A blocked by turning traffic?

If his travels through that complex intersection were more varied he might recognize the merits of a traffic calming roundabout and the fairer, cost-effective, access it provides to all users, especially during the busy summer season.

On the other hand, he rightly sees the opportunities to improve Village Way, both scenically and for the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, why then does he not recognize the impossibility for such energy efficient travellers to actually cross 19A at Village Way? Perhaps this a chance to think of others and give up a little for the greater good of the whole?
