The race is on to supply Asia with liquefied natural gas (LNG), a cleaner, less carbon-intensive alternative to coal for generating electricity.
As a major natural gas producer, B.C. is well-positioned to be a major competitor in the LNG race. And it’s a race we can’t afford to lose because LNG exports to Asia have become the cornerstone of the province’s economic development.
Although B.C.’s abundance of cheap natural gas might, on the surface, seem like a death knell for renewable energy development, quite the opposite seems to be true. B.C.’s renewable green energy abundance is turning out to be the edge B.C. has over other LNG competitors because it gives B.C. a way to liquefy natural gas with the lowest overall GHG content possible.
Getting Asia off coal is a good thing, and so is developing B.C.’s renewable green energy resources.
