Jodi Shaw and Greg Bruns both made good remarks that we as a city and parents should be looking out for youth.
What those three teenage girls did to that 30-year-old man at Mill Lake was absolutely wrong and punishable by law.
As the APD stated, that man who was beaten could have been killed. But thankfully he’s alive.
We, as a city, need to be more on the lookout for youth after 11 p.m. There are movies and sports games that often finish around 11 p.m. After that, the APD should pay closer attention to youth out in the parks or out in public after, in my personal opinion, 11 p.m. unless accompanied by a legal guardian, parent, youth leader, etc…
All parks should be closed after 11 p.m. It’s unsafe for a man and a woman to be walking alone in a park where visibility is not good.
What’s the point of walking in hot zones of cities where there’s trouble and crime is high?
If people put themselves at risk, should we – the ones who don’t put ourselves at risk – pay for their mistakes?
I believe there are people out there who will debate my theory on this and disagree with me, because this is just my opinion. It’s how I personally see it, and it’s my view not yours. We all have to discern for ourselves and for our children what’s best for their and our safety.
I have to say, if I know how to properly defend myself does that give me the permission to walk out in a park at 3 a.m. or to go for a walk where there’s prostitution, crime, and police activity? The answer: No. That would be stupid.
We all must use discretion in how we guard ourselves and our children.
