One of summer’s delights is the availability of fresh, locally-grown corn, but the pleasure of this bounty is tainted by customers who rip open the corn tops and toss a vandalized product back in the bin for the next customer to enjoy.
The sheer callousness of this behaviour must be really hard to take for the producer who has worked hard to grow this jewel of our summer produce at a very modest price.
Do we do this with bananas and other expensive fruits and vegetables? I think not, or the spoilage would drive every store to package all produce.
It is time to shame those who think this behaviour with corn is OK. How would you feel if your own garden produce was so shoddily treated?
