Anyone that thinks that the heath care system is not broken should go and try it out.
Last month I unfortunately had a heart attack. Arriving at Campbell River Hospital, I was treated in the emergency ward.
I was told that they would put me in ICU but that couldn’t happen because there were no beds. I spent the night in Emergency.
I was then sent to Victoria – to the Cardiac Short Stay unit. They did their little operation and then I should have gone to the ward in the CVU.
Again, there was no room for me so I stayed in the same Day Surgical Unit meant for an eight-hour stay.
I spent four days in that temporary unit and had two more heart attacks while I waited.
They even tried to send me back to Campbell River but again I was told there was no room at the Inn.
While I was in Victoria I met an old fellow that had been flown down from Kelowna and operated on.
After it was done he was told that he would have to find his own way home.
What kind of system would let old people, with no place to stay, no money, and not able to look after himself have to find their own way home?
I was fortunate enough to have family that was able to help me, what about the poor sod that is left stranded?
