While fall is a favorite season for many, it does being the back-to-school viruses and the worst season for allergy sufferers. Here are a few tips to help everyone in your household stay just a little healthier:

• Be Allergy Wise:  Pollen is at its peak between 5 – 10 a.m.  Try to stay indoors and keep your house and car windows closed. Wash your hair and change your clothes after being outside, and don’t hang laundry outside where it can trap pollen.

• Exercise: Warm up before venturing out in the cooler weather. Be sure to wear sunscreen to prevent harmful UV exposure no matter the weather. Pack a hat and gloves to avoid heat loss and protect exposed skin when the temperature really drops (I’d like to add protect your lips, too – use a lip balm)

• Drink Up:  Stay hydrated with plenty of water through the dry months to help your body fight off disease.

• Cover your cough and sneezes.  Remember to cough and sneeze into your arm and be sure to wash your hands thoroughly to help stop the spread of germs.

• Boost you diet:  Take advantage of the fall harvest to make sure you and your family are getting the Canada’s Food Guide recommended daily servings of fruit and vegetables.

Fall is a wonderful time to get the entire family moving.  Get outside whenever possible and enjoy all the beauty that comes with the changing season.  Protecting yourself and your family through these efforts will help keep you and your family healthy during this fall season.
