I suppose if you have not experienced something very good, then you will not have an idea of what you are missing!
Last Saturday evening, as I gazed out to a meagre attendance of 2,500 at our Abbotsford Heat hockey game, I wondered just how many NHL hockey fans, sitting home on their couch, were lamenting their loss of Hockey Night in Canada and firing through the remote to find anything of interest.
Meanwhile across town, those that invested as little as $15 were well entertained by our own professional hockey team, the Abbotsford Heat.
We too are NHL fans, but we also appreciate that these young men, attempting to break into the big league, give us their very best each and every game! How many regular season NHL games are ho-hum? Next to Rogers Place, AESC is the most impressive arena in B.C., and it is yours and mine.
The game experience from the minute you enter the doors is a quality outing. The speed of the game and the skills of these players will impress.
Sure, they are an affiliate of Calgary, but take note – there is no “C” on their uniforms. Many of these professional players get traded in this league and indeed may end up wearing our beloved Vancouver Canucks jersey. B.C.-born hockey players can be found on almost every AHL team.
To even have a professional hockey team in our wonderful city is a major bonus that larger cities in Canada can only dream of. There is nothing wrong with showing a little Abbotsford pride.
