Re: Need for more gluten free, The News, Aug. 17.
It is certainly easy to be frustrated with this gluten- free diet and yes this market is growing rapidly.
You note that the website theceliacscence.com only lists restaurants in Maple Ridge that cater to gluten- free diet and yes there are others that are accommodating as you state.
Someone needs to ensure that a restaurant and serving staff are knowledgeable and abiding with Canadian standards of gluten- free food and preparation and service.
This information must then be forwarded to the website of choice.
Are you aware that in Maple Ridge a support group for celiac and gluten sensitivity has been formed?
No fee is asked for. The object is to provide information on new and old gluten- free food products, availability of food items, share ideas and tips.
This group is lead by Canadian Celiac Association volunteers using the guidelines of the association to ensure validity and accuracy of information provided.
For information or to contact the group, which meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 22336 Dewdney Trunk Road, contact: info@vancouverceliac.ca.
