HEROES – On Behalf of the Campbell River & District Adult Care Society, we would like to thank the Rotary Club of Campbell River, Budget Blinds and Michelle’s Home Decorating for their kindness and generous donations to make our activity hall bright and beautiful for the seniors. We have a large activity hall where we provide a very valuable activity program and socialization for the seniors who are living in the Campbell River area. In the spring we had an opportunity to change the windows in this room and we were seeking financial help to update the much needed window coverings to make it cheerful and bright. The Rotary Club of Campbell River donated the funds to pay for the blinds that were purchased from Budget Blinds at a very reasonable price. Michelle created beautiful valances and gave it a finishing touch to complete the project. We are so thankful for your kindness and generosity towards this much needed program in our community. We provide approximately 4,500 days of service to our seniors in Campbell River along with the very valuable lunch program. We cherish much laughter, joy, beautiful stories, and many hugs while providing care at the Campbell River & District Adult Care Society. All of you are our heroes for recognizing the importance of this program and for supporting us through this journey of aging. – Pam Mann, Nurse Administrator, Campbell River & District Adult Care Society
HEROES – I have recently moved to this city and would like to express my gratitude to some service people. They were efficient and friendly; their kindness in helping me would never be found in other communities I have lived in (Kelowna and Vancouver). A big thank you to Janis, and Sherran (and her husband Clayton). These people make Campbell River what it is – a great place to live! – Georgina Spies
HERO – Just want to say to the Hero who turned in my wallet fully-intact to Super Store on Tuesday the 7th of June, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I am so grateful! May goodness come right back at you in some way. You really did make my day. I only wish I knew who were to say THANKS in person! – Lynn Michaluk
ZEROS – Perhaps the city of Campbell River can answer a few questions here. When this city of ours is looking to save money and clean up downtown and attract visitors, why does it plant flowers and bulbs outside the library then 3-4 weeks later uproot them (costing taxpayers money) and also take away the only remaining city benches again outside the library. Are they going to be replaced? Perhaps aliens took them for all the info from the city aliens could have done. Whilst I’m on the subject of complaining, the present displays in the art gallery on Shoppers Row is absolutely not art, more like pornography. I am a frequent visitor and the number of people that stop and comment on these disgusting drawings and bad language is phenomenal but perhaps that’s considered the norm these days. Well I, for one, will be telling visitors not to even go near these displays. A disgusted and embarrassed Campbell Riverite. – Roger Barker
HEROES – Thrifty Foods is our horses’ hero. After lending our hay bales for their Canada Day float, they returned the bales and included a surprise gift certificate. Since it is our favourite school horses birthday party coming up, we have ordered a carrot cake to share at the barn. Thanks Thriftys! – Susan Gosnell
HEROES – This is a huge thank you to the exceptional group of men and women, who assisted my daughter and her friend when they got in a car accident on the top of Rockland Hill on Saturday night. There are not enough words to describe the professionalism and compassion of the group of fire fighters, police officers and ambulance attendants that were on the scene. They all went above and beyond to make sure the girls where looked after and okay. A very special thanks to the couple that live on the top of Rockland that brought out umbrellas and blankets for the kids and the parents while we waited for the tow truck. To the people who stopped and helped them out of the vehicle, we thank you! One of the worst feelings in the world is to get that phone call that your child has been in an accident. Knowing that our city has this caliber of emergency response and citizens that look after one another it makes our family proud to live in this community. – Cheryl Hildebrand
HEROES – All of the people who have been so supportive and encouraging to our family since the loss of our father – and mom’s husband – Jeep de Haan. It is such a blessing to be surrounded by people who are coming alongside our family in so many different ways. Many businesses in town have gone above and beyond to help us sort out paperwork, etc. Many family friends have been helping mom as she adjusts to a much different life. Each of us in the family have been surrounded by amazing friends who have come alongside us in our loss. Thank you everyone, for all that you have done, and are doing. And we can’t say enough positive feedback about the staff at the CR hospital who helped us when dad’s condition started to deteriorate significantly. The nurses on 2 south and in the Palliative care ward are absolutely amazing. Thank you Dr. Coetzee for your support in a very difficult time. There are too many people to thank, and not enough words. You are all heroes to us. – Michelle Sommer on behalf of Jeep de Haan’s family
