HEROES & ZEROS

HERO – Brenda at Family Services and Volunteer Drivers. You have been such a help driving me to appointments and around town. The service has been so kind,  considerate and accommodating. Please know that your transportation service through the  Better At Home program is greatly needed and appreciated by seniors with low income and who do not drive. – Marjorie Beer

HEROES – The staff on and around the second floor of New Horizons Care Facility are really heroes. We want to thank them and compliment them for how they perform their job. They treat the residents with respect and many of them care for the residents as if they were their own family members. It has been a difficult journey to see our parents loose their independence and have to move to a place unknown to them. Every effort seems to have been made to make sure they are cared for through medical intervention, comfort, social interaction with others, exercise, nutrition and just a stop in the hallway to say hello.  Thank you for being the kind, caring and thoughtful people you are. – Betty & Brian Christensen

HERO – Many thanks to the nice lady in the white pickup that stopped and offered me an umbrella Tuesday when the weather changed suddenly from sunshine to downpour, which I happen to get caught in while shopping since my vehicle was in for servicing. – Ingrid Pitman, the blonde with the newspaper on her head.

HEROES – A big Thank you to everyone who supported the Campbell River Literacy Association’s 7th annual Scrabble tournament. Our donors Costco, The Lite Shop, Riptide Marine Pub Grill & Catering, Thongs Jewellery and Repair, Baba Gannouj, Quay West, Wasabiya, Serious Coffee, Quality Foods, Steiner’s Bakery, Thrifty Foods, and our player’s who collected pledges and made this a great day.  Your continued support allows us to offer Literacy Services for all ages. – Campbell River Literacy

HEROES –  The Campbell River Altrusa Club for your continued support of North Island College students. Your support makes a big difference in the lives of students as they pursue their career dreams. – Jane Hay, NIC Foundation

HEROES – I would like to shout a big Thank-you to the couple who stopped and helped our dad, Jim after he fell on the Hilchey Road sidewalk. After some frantic searching we found him in Emergency smiling away despite a bandaged, cut-up nose. He had nothing but good things to say about the wonderful assistance he received from you as well as the paramedics. So relieved and thankful. – Chris and Marilyn Gray

HEROES – New Horizons has a hero! He goes by the name of John Gibbard. John has been coming and bringing chocolate and oranges to the residents and staff at New Horizons for the last six years! John shows up every morning with a smile on this face and bag of goodies. John has also donated numerous items for the residents including a wheelchair. We the staff at New Horizons’ would like to take this  opportunity to thank John for all his kindness and forever giving spirits. Words can not express how Thankful we are! Thank you John. – From the staff and residents at New Horizons.

HEROES – Our sincere thanks to everyone who attended our Book Sale in Campbell River on APRIL 15 and 16 and for the huge amount of books we received. Special thanks to Claude, the Security Guard at the Tyee Plaza for all his assistance, to the owners of the Tyee Plaza for again allowing us to use their building and to the Campbell River Mirror for our advertising. It was a very successful event due to all the support we received.  Again our sincere thanks to everyone. – All the members of Chas Maria Chapter #76, Order of the Eastern Star.

HEROES – I would like to express our gratitude to the Oyster River Salmon Enhancement Society, especially to Charlie and Leah. They have helped our school successfully raise hundreds of coho salmon fry over the years. We would not have been so successful without their commitment to the project. They regularly arrive at the school to check on the health of the aquarium tank, bringing in many heavy buckets of fresh Oyster River water. They also help our students learn about the local environment by giving little talks about salmon life cycles and about other river wildlife. The day we release the fry at Bear Creek Park is treated like a celebration and all the students feel proud they have played a part. I am sad that this wonderful partnership will end with the closure of our school. However, I know the members of the Society will keep up the great work they do to help maintain a thriving river environment. I thank them for recognizing the importance of directly involving children in that work. – Marion Waters, Principal, Oyster River Elementary

HEROES – All of you who donated to the Heart and Stroke this year. I made over my goal. I shall be retiring this year and must say thank-you for the last 30 or 40 yers of donations. Have a great summer. Take Care. God bless. – Bea Duquette
