Highway 19 could have been a rowboat

As a senior who can defer costs I’d rather vote “yes” to flush and forget!

Dear editor,

In Mr. MacDonald’s letter (CV Record June 2) he refers to the South Sewer Project as being a battleship when a rowboat will do…

I wish to draw an analogy to Highway #19.  Prior to its construction between 1996 to 2001, there was strong opposition to this roadway as longtime residents no doubt will recall.  A need was identified for the road and I sincerely doubt that many if any remain opposed to this highway today.  Could it have been built for less by making it a gravel road or only two lanes?  That would have been a rowboat.

This engineered sewer project is expensive but it is being built for the future of the area with a view to expansion.  Twenty years after the building of the highway no one even considers the cost or the need any longer…it just is, as will be this project in 20 years time if it proceeds.

So we are left with being forced to replace aging septic systems and pay now or get behind this sewer system and pay for it over time.  As a senior who can defer costs I’d rather vote “yes” to flush and forget!
