Is it hot enough for you yet?
Murphy (as in Murphy’s Law) visited our home again last week and decided since he’d recently concluded we needed to replace our hot water tank, he should now dictate we need to also replace the air conditioner.
Perfect time for an air conditioner to pack it—when it is 9,000 degrees in the shade and there is no shade. (Murphy is no longer on our Christmas card list).
When I checked to see if we could afford a new air conditioner, the bank machine just laughed at me.
Therefore, as soon as this column was written, I began digging through the mounds of junk in the shed to find our tent. It is cooler outside than it is in the house.
Looks like camping starts in the backyard this year.

Well, there are many good musical performances and golf tournaments to keep you hopping, starting tonight.
The superb Parks Alive program is featuring some tremendous talent including two of my favourite songwriter/musicians.
Tonight on the Kerry Park stage will be the talented Kenny Byrka, (a.k.a. the Sleddogs) who returns to town within his dynamic daughter Rachel to perform live for Kelowna music fans.You do not want to miss this.
Ken and Ashley (along with two other band members) will perform a half hour set beginning at 7:15 p.m.
It will be a wonderful night of music and sharing.
Kenny Byrka is one of the finest musicians and one of the best men I have ever had the pleasure knowing during my time in the music world.
His willingness to help others in the big picture is amazing, and to see his own daughter shine in the industry is not only fitting, but also inspirational.
Byrka has a huge heart, which is equally matched by his huge amount of talent.
Do yourself a favour and check out two wonderful people (dad and daughter) who care. Like her father, I can see a tremendous musical future for the talented Rachel.
The great tunes continue on Saturday night when brilliant songwriter/singer Barry Mathers and his wife Donna play at Kerry Park.
Donna perform a lot of roots/alternative country/Americana genre tunes, including some of her husband’s own amazing tunes.
Mathers (of the Cruzeros fame) earned the musical nickname ‘Golden throat’ many years ago. E very time the man sings I am spellbound.
Their four-piece act is set to start at 8:30 p.m. Saturday night.
While you have your calendar and pencil handy, book some time on Aug. 10 to check out Kelowna musician Rann Berry, who will hold his One Hit Wonder’s showcase at Kelowna Community Theatre.
Berry has thrilled Okanagan music fans for the past two decades with his guitar and vocal skills and promises an interesting and enjoyable show.
He will take you back in musical time with songs from the 1960s and ‘70s featuring those ‘one hit wonders’ that you forgot how much you loved to hear.
Remember Seasons In The Sun, Indiana Wants Me, Hooked on a Feeling and so many more. The show features a seven-piece show band and an opening act.
