Re: Council won’t let developer reduce parking, June 6.
l want to thank councillors Bill Bestwick, Gord Fuller, Jerry Hong and Ian Thorpe for turning down this variance. Also to the neighbourhood president for giving a presentation on why this variance should be turned down. Since he was not notified by city hall of this meeting, it was by chance he found out about it. I would safely say, if he had not spoken, the variance would have gone through.
My wife and I have lived in the neighbourhood for the last 12 years. We have seen tremendous growth in the last five years along Dufferin Crescent, west of Boundary Avenue. We don’t have a problem with that, however, parking on the street has become a real problem especially during the day. Also the traffic volumes on Dufferin due to people using Boxwood Road as a bypass to Northfield Road.
With watching the building of Summerhill Place phase 1, there is a spill over in the evening with people having a second car. What will it be like when phase 2 and 3 are completed?
What’s interesting about all this is the existing housing, strata condos and apartment building all have on-site parking. Why on the Earth are we making exceptions?
In closing, we are hoping that the study that will take place on this issue will address our concerns.
