Dear editor,
While Maxwell Brown’s letter (Downtown no place for shelter, June 3 Record) is somewhat harsh, it is basically true I’m afraid.
I lived for 10 years within 400 yards of the Victoria ferry terminal and over the years it just got worse and worse. Not all unfortunate homeless people were to blame but the city did not have the guts to deal with the bad ‘uns so we all suffered.
I moved … to Comox Valley and now I see us making the same mistake. Build a shelter … but not downtown, if it must be downtown, put it on top of the City Hall and let them deal with the mess. Sorry but true. Well written, Maxwell Brown. Thanks.
