Honoured to represent this lovely riding

MP James Lunney responds to editorial

In response to your “Owls in the Riding” editorial, let me begin by expressing my confidence that Oceanside residents have the greatest affection for owls! That said, there is no Federal Riding called Nanaimo-Parksville.

I tell them in Ottawa (Just ask Rick Mercer who spent the weekend filming in Tofino) that it is one of the most beautiful places in Canada; an island in the Pacific, mildest climate, shortest winter, palm trees and all, an outdoor adventure destination!

Yes, I have had the privilege of representing the 120,000 constituents of Nanaimo-Alberni, a riding that covers 8,900 sq. km, for 10 years now. I love it here. It has been my honour to serve. I don’t believe we need an election just two years into Canada’s 40th parliament; but if the opposition parties force one, I will be asking citizens for their support.

We are just coming out of the worst economic slump since the Second World War. Our Economic Action Plan brought big investments to Nanaimo-Alberni.

Canada has seen five consecutive quarters of sustained growth but the recovery is fragile, the world itself is unstable.

There is still much work to do for Nanaimo-Alberni, for B.C. and for Canada!
