Dear editor,
I want to comment on the hospital parking fees.
I was at emergency a few weeks ago, and was by myself, and I put money in for a couple of hours. But I was in emergency for over five hours. I could not run out and add more money to the meter. I was worried about my car the whole time and also whether there would be a huge fine or even having my car towed. This did not help my condition any. So this is a problem. I am sure if the powers that be were in my shoes that day, they might rethink the parking fees.
Now addressing those who can’t afford the parking fees, as this can add up if you have to go to the hospital for days in a row. What about tokens? Just as you can purchase tokens for a toll highway, how about tokens for those who are low income, because I don’t think that the parking fees are going to go away – even though I don’t agree with them. I understand the concept of not taking money away from health care to look after a parking lot. But then you have to employ someone to check the cars to make sure that cars have tickets.
It comes down to the governments taking money out of our pockets again – and probably making a profit from the ticket meters. Let’s see some financial records for the south Island.
