Unfortunately, some people are missing quite a few points when criticizing the demonstrators. When we elect politicians to run our country from the top to bottom, we are hoping they are efficient in making forward-thinking decisions so that when a crisis comes up they are able to think outside of the box to ensure the safety of their land and subjects.

For one thing, tourism is one of our biggest economic contributors here in B.C. According to go2HR, because it is one of the top 10 destinations in the world, tourism in B.C. constitutes 290,000 jobs and generates $17 billion in revenues annually.

We are not willing to sacrifice this over “fossilized” thinking toward energy when we could simply put the resources instead into research for cleaner energy. There could be retraining for the oil workers and a whole new industry to put our money into which would benefit the whole country.

The fact is that we are destroying our world to the point that we are looking out to space for a place to escape when we finally kill our planet. Where does the economy sit then?
