As I read and watch the debate on the HST I really have to wonder what people are thinking.
I hear people saying that it is a good thing the government is lowering the HST to 10 per cent and giving people checks for $175.
Wake up people! You are spending thousands on HST every year and getting $175 back.
What part of this do you not understand? This is your own money they are giving back.
I have talked to many people from overseas who have this tax and they all hate it. In most countries it is now 20 per cent.
I own my own business in Parksville and sell mostly Canadian products manufactured in provinces with the HST.
All of the prices on these products, without exception ,have increased five per cent in the last month.
Where are the savings in this?
I have talked to every manufacturer I deal with and the answer I get is, “We are in business to maximize profits, not give money back and we will take every advantage to maximize profits.”
This does not bode well for any consumers getting price reductions.
In reality this is a tax to switch the tax from corporations to the backs of the working class. Even the government has said this.
When did this become acceptable? When did we vote for this?
Do yourself a favour and vote to get rid of this tax, because if you don’t, this sends a message to governments and corporations that this is acceptable. However, it is not.
If this tax stays, this is the tip of the iceberg in new taxes and deregulation that are coming.
I also see letters about how much this is going to cost us to get rid of this tax, but what I don’t see is why we have to pay the federal government back our own money.
This is about way more than money. This is about democracy and a government forcing an unwanted tax on us, so please stand up and be counted tell the government that, no we do not have endless deep pockets and you can’t just keep taxing us to death to please your corporate pals.
