HST wrong

I hold membership in the B.C. Liberal Party, however, I am completely fed up with the actions of our provincial government concerning the HST issue.

When the HST was introduced, as Eric Foster stated, “we did a terrible job of introducing this.”

The government also misrepresented that the tax would be revenue neutral: but now we have learned it has brought into the provincial coffers an extra $50 million.

Eric was just a rookie MLA and I don’t think it is fair to lay all of the blame on him.

With the additional revenue that as been generated, why can’t the proposed tax reduction be implemented now rather than in the years 2012 and 2014?

The argument that B.C. can’t afford to go back to the former PST/GST system doesn’t hold water. Financially we got along just fine that system before.

There is merit to a consumer taxation system administered by a single agency. Having said that, it is not fair that consumers of goods and services are expected to bear the burden of more and more taxation. I refer especially to middle income earners. The upcoming referendum will not solve this.

Another tax grab is the carbon tax which is scheduled for an increase this summer. It discriminates against those of us who reside in small or rural communities where public transportation is either not available or is very limited.

Most people residing in these communities have no choice but to resort to the automobile.
