HUGS: To the organizers, adjudicators, volunteers, supporters and performers at the Kootenay Festival of the Arts this week. Such dedication to the arts! Ovations to all involved for supporting our young performers.
SLUGS: Whatever government agency allowed the entrance way off Highway 3A onto a property in South Slocan is insane. It is in a tight S-curved corner and blind to both lanes of traffic. A disaster waiting to happen.
HUGS: To the individuals who helped clear the brush from the trail to flagpole and beyond heading to the CBC tower. Some of you I know, and some of you I don’t, but I’m thankful to you all. I can hardly wait to do the trail this weekend!
SLUGS: To the older black haired woman (you know who you are) for yelling profanities at me when my tire was touching the line of a handicap spot. I was by no means obstructing it and nobody gave you the right to cause such a childish scene.
SLUGS: To the person who lives to watch nature at work (western thatching ants). I appreciate your concern regarding the ants, but several people have a concern that being so close to the pathway, a child may step or fall into the nest and a dog could step into it as well. These ants bite and we wouldn’t want a child or canine to suffer the bites.
SLUGS: Huge slugs to whoever is responsible for removing the benches that were along the pathway outside of the mall. It was so nice to be able to sit occasionally and rest while looking at the lake. I’m not sure who was responsible for taking them away. Please put them back and stop being so thoughtless towards the people and visitors of our beautiful town. – A senior who enjoys walking and resting when the need arises
SLUGS: Gargantuan slimey slugs to local people who drive on the riparian zone at Sunshine Bay Park, Harrop. This zone has been set aside in a RDCK park for the aquatic life, waterfowl, and wild mammals. Families with small children also enjoy the beach, as well as watercraft. You are aware of the huge posted sign depicting reasons to protect the riparian. It is sacred land. Burning beer cans and plastic garbage pollutes the air and water we all attempt to enjoy! Stop urinating in public on the beach! Smarten up!
SLUGS: To the litterbugs!! The snow may have masked your trash from your car windows along our beautiful highways during the winter, but now that it’s melted — guess what’s showing up? Your pop and been cans. Your chip bags. Your car parts. Your wrappers. Yuck. A true eyesore contrasting to the beauty of spring awakening. It is truly disheartening! Are these litterbugs truly residents of our area? Are they friends? Passers-by? What do we need to do to stop this? More garbage receptacles? More community highway clean ups? How about a bag for trash inside your own vehicle? It makes me sad to see this every day driving into town. We live in a pristine beautiful place. Let’s keep it that way, my friends! – A 20-something who cares about our home
SLUGS: To all the parents who have children in car seats behind the driver’s seat. When the parent gets out of the driver’s side to let the child out of their seat, they are putting not only themselves in danger of oncoming traffic but their child as well. They are standing with half their body inside the vehicle unable to see what is going on behind them. They get the child out of the car seat and right into the oncoming traffic. Not to mention the back door being wide open just waiting to be taken off its hinges. What is the matter with putting the car seat on the passenger’s side, out of harm’s way? When the child gets out of the car seat he or she is on the sidewalk, not running unthinkingly into oncoming traffic. If you have two children in car seats, teach them to use the passenger’s side to get out of the vehicle.
