Human rights issue

It has always been my understanding that a doctor studies and is trained for saving lives – not taking lives.

This is in response to a letter from Ullrich Fischer on Feb. 7. The  writer says that abortion is “a matter for a woman and a doctor.’’

It has always been my understanding that a doctor studies and is trained for saving lives – not taking lives. It is a human right to be born.

When  a pet owner mistreats his or her pet, even though they own it, they can be charged for cruelty and in extreme cases receive a jail sentence. This applies to all of us in regard to cruelty and with any animal. Animals have rights and should be protected. But this also applies to humans – born or unborn.

A fetus belongs to the mother but that doesn’t mean she can take this young life away.

Protecting the unborn is not just a religious issue, it is a human rights issue. And the Bible teaches us that we are to love each other as we love ourselves. This includes the unborn, our neighbours, etc., and also those who had at one time an abortion.

Furthermore, there are various groups who are willing to assist pregnant teens or women who need help in perhaps what is a difficult time. For more info in that regard contact; sdpro-life@telus.net
