Travesty in the Cambridge English dictionary is defined as “something that fails to represent the values and qualities that it is intended to represent in a way that is shocking or offensive.”
That the current ICF board of directors would actually extend the ICF management contract for another 30 months was indeed a travesty. That one of the ICF members can state, when asking questions about the ICF business plan, “the responses were limited (and) confusing about whether a business plan even exists for the ICF” is beyond imagination.
After reading the ICF chair’s letter to the editor ‘No, Island Corridor is not Crumbling’ (The NEWS, June 16), it is painfully clear the corridor is doing fine, but something is dreadfully wrong with the foundation.
John Harding’s editorial stated “It’s been all talk.” The letter from the ICF chair exemplifies the “flowery phrases” responses and shows a complete lack of ability to face the reality that $20 million odd dollars will never bring the rail line up to VIA safety standards to bring back passenger service.
All the references to ICF successes and RDN negativity are only further examples of how the ICF deflects the real issues and shows how “very large” the “foxhole” really is. Show us the detailed business plan, hold a public meeting and answer our questions.
I agree, as Harding wrote, that “It’s time for someone, some government, to step in” and stop this never-ending ICF boondoggle to snatch taxpayer dollars to finance an unrealistic dream, before it turns into a nightmare!
