Too bad Adrian Liu didn’t use drugs.
Then he might have had a chance to, at least, appeal to the International Olympic Committee when he was kicked out of the 2015 Pan Am Games due to a clerical error.
With athletes getting the chance to participate in the Olympics after going through an appeal process for taking performance enhancing substances, Liu and his badminton partner, Derrick Ng, should have had the opportunity to make up some of the substantial points lost when he was ousted from the Olympic-qualifying Pan Am Games.
Because some absent-minded paper pusher signed Liu up for more than one tournament in the same week, his dreams of representing Canada on the world stage were dashed. It forced the athlete to come up with thousands of dollars and travel almost every other week to various tournaments to try and make up for the lost points. Liu even started a GoFundMe page to raise money. In the end, it wasn’t enough, and now Liu’s athletic future is uncertain. It’s simply an unacceptable fate for the athlete, who had this singular dream for four years.
