While the summer months are perfect for long, lazy days at Shuswap Lake, I have to admit I haven’t been able to enjoy too much vacation time.
But I don’t mind being busy when it means great things are happening in our community.
I was thrilled to see the government announce it will commit $3 million for the design and construction of a new bridge on Highway 97A over Hummingbird Creek.
This is a much-needed improvement project for our community. It means increased safety and protection of the highway during high creek flows.
Design is expected to be completed by next spring, with construction to follow later in 2014. As the bridge is being built, other measures will be put into place to ensure the highway continues to be a reliable route for the movement of people and goods.
That reliability is key to sustaining economic growth and creating jobs across BC.
The project comes after much consultation with the Swansea Point community.
I want to thank all of the local residents who gave their input throughout this process. I look forward to joining you in celebration when the bridge is built.
In that spirit of welcoming your ideas and working together to build a better Shuswap community, I’m pleased to let you know that my new constituency office is coming along nicely. Renovations continue, and we are close to opening up our doors to you. Stay tuned for details.
In the meantime, I encourage you to email me at Greg.Kyllo.MLA@leg.bc.ca until our phones are set up.
Finally, I want to remind everyone to take extra caution on our roads as our students head back to school. Whether it be elementary, high school, or post-secondary studies, I wish all of our young people success in the school year ahead.
