I am reading all about the Shelbourne Street improvements and cannot help but wonder if the same group that designed the new intersection at the corner of Richmond Road and Cedar Hill Cross Road are looking after that. If so, it will be a mess.
Why is there no thought to expanding the sidewalks and bike lanes along roads in which students cycle as a priority for safety sake? Cedar Hill Cross Road should have them all along the school corridor.
Richmond Road is a disaster waiting to happen. Only one sidewalk in some spots, too small and narrow in other areas, homeowners allowed to let bushes and trees overgrow onto walkways limiting space. As for the road, a jutted-out bus stop on the 3500 block of Richmond Road means cyclists have to veer out into traffic. And there is no speed bump at the end of Mayfair Drive, where a hidden driveway to the right creates numerous close calls for drivers that do not stop and look to their right when turning onto Richmond Road.
These two roads, which have significant student, pedestrian and cyclist traffic between Lansdowne and Cedar Hill Cross, seem to need more attention.
