Involvement urged in growth strategy

Dear Editor:

This past week I had the opportunity to participate in a workshop put on by the consulting group that is contracted to help our municipal planners update our Urban Growth Boundary.

These folks came up with what I thought was, an innovative and inclusive method of obtaining our thoughts on this thorny issue.

The exercise was non confrontational and drew out some very good ideas from the fairly diverse group that attended. The method seemed to allow discussion but more importantly forced us to actually attach our thoughts to the map of town.

This exercise will be conducted throughout the next four months in various forms, with the objective to involve as wide a cross section of the community as possible.

The one method they have come up with is a community survey that each for us can do from our own homes.

The web address is surveymonkey.com/s/futuresummerland.

It is my understanding this survey must be completed between now and May 3.

There is also more information at futuresummerland.com Facebook and Twitter.

I would encourage all of us to participate.

I really think there may be hope this time to get our future planning on the right path, but this will only happen if more of us get involved.

Come on folks, take a few minutes between periods, and make your thoughts known  on how our town should look in the future. It is especially important for our young families and youth to get involved. After all, this exercise is for their benefit.
