Is it time to discuss hearing loss

Seniors need to consider a hearing test as their hearing begins to deteriorate

I met with Teisha Ferster at Community Hearing Clinic (CHC) on May 24 to discuss seniors and hearing loss. She offers free hearing screenings for seniors 65 years and older. She does this for a number of reasons. Firstly, she cares about the seniors of our community and wants to provide hearing awareness. Hearing loss can go undetected for many years and the sooner it is detected, the easier it can be addressed. Lastly, there is scientific proof that hearing loss can contribute to the onset of depression, dementia and Alzheimer’s which is becoming more prevalent in senior years.

There can be many fears and concerns  about hearing loss and hearing aids. Teisha is there to guide you through your hearing care needs. This includes discussing your individual hearing evaluation results and counselling on the best communication methods for you. Based on your hearing results, hearing aids may be recommended.

There is a lot to consider when thinking of purchasing a hearing aid. The biggest challenge will be your willingness and motivation to invest time and energy into restoring your hearing abilities.

CHC also takes into consideration the severity of your hearing loss, what environments you find yourself in, your dexterity and personal capabilities or limitations.

Teisha started as a receptionist in a local hearing clinic. She soon realized that she would like to train as a Registered Hearing Instrument Practitioner (RSIP). She began her training a year later and after her practicum she obtained her RHIP.

Teisha is married and has two young children, she loves her job and it very easy to talk to. If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact her or staff at Community Hearing Care  236-424-3000.
