Dear editor,
Our club, the Huband Park Environment Club, entered (and was a winner in!) the B.C. Green Games 2013 video contest.
You can view it at www.bcgreengames.ca.
Each year, Canadians throw away millions and millions of Styrofoam cups. Even 500 years from now, that foam cup you used this morning will still be sitting in the landfill.
Surprisingly, it does not need to end up there — keeping it out of the landfill can reduce its volume by 20 per cent.
When we were doing our research, we found out that you can recycle Styrofoam.
The Nanaimo Recycling Exchange (2477 Kenworth Rd.) will take your styrofoam and crush it for recycling. And for free!
You can also take your discarded styrofoam to the Church Road Transfer Station located at 860 Church Rd. in Parksville.
We hope this helps you. We also hope that our own landfill will soon be accepting Styrofoam for recycling.
Saige Hay-Furlotte,
Comox Valley
