Gosh another year has gone by already. I just can’t believe how quickly time has flown by this year.
It doesn’t seem so long ago that the warm summer sun was shining down on us, the lakes were crystal clear and people were out and about enjoying the summer.
Perhaps it seems that way because Burns Lake has been a hive of activity this year.
From Lakes District Arts Council concerts, school events, sporting events, summer activities and community meetings, it seems there is never really a dull moment in Burns Lake.
I just love Christmas and all the festivities it brings.
There is certainly no bah humbug from me at all.
I don’t mind Christmas shopping crowds, decorating the Christmas tree or listening to Christmas carols.
I have to admit, I put up my Christmas tree in November this year simply because I just couldn’t wait.
It’s so nice to see the village all decked out in twinkling Christmas lights and decorations.
It is also great to see so many local businesses and residents getting into the swing of Christmas with their own lights and decorations.
If you haven’t already done so this year, I would suggest taking a drive around town one night on a Christmas light tour, it’s lots of fun.
Some people go to great lengths to decorate their homes and I am sure they would appreciate a few passersby casting appreciative glances at all their hard, but festive work.
Locals are also busy preparing for parties, Christmas concerts and festivities that are, by now in full swing.
The feeling and spirit of Christmas is certainly in the air.
With four days to go I have finally finished all of my Christmas shopping. There is such a great selection of gift ideas offered by local businesses this year.
I hope Santa Claus is ready too, after all he has very a big night to prepare for.
While it is hard not to get caught up in all the present giving and receiving at Christmas time, it is also important to remember the true spirit of the Christmas season.
While Christmas is a time for giving, most often, the best gifts are the ones that come straight from the heart.
It is a time to remember your friends, families and neighbours and a time to spend in celebration with loved ones.
Something as simple as home baked Christmas cookies can bring a smile to any face.
I hope that everyone takes the time to treasure special moments with family and friends and take a break from the everyday hustle and bustle of life this Christmas.
Enjoy peace this season and be thankful for all the good things in life. Be thankful for the friends and family that are always there for us when we need them the most.
Lakes District News would like to wish you all a very merry and safe Christmas holiday and we look forward to working with the community again next year … however you say it …. happy, holidays, joyeux noël or merry Christmas, have a wonderful time and be safe on the roads this holiday season.
