It’s the Canadian way

Solemn and thoughtful remembrance is better than sabre rattling.

Editor: Re: “Highway of Heroes is confusing,” (letter, The Times, Oct. 9).

I would like to add a couple of comments to the “Highway of Heroes” letter submitted by Jacob de Raadt. Things that glorify or sensationalize tend to incite fervour and zeal, as opposed to quiet dignified honour.

Frenzied patriotism tends to incite sabre rattling and battle cries instead of solemn, thoughtful remembrance and gratitude. In the same way, flag waving shows your patriotism — it doesn’t prove it.  Yes, I would also agree this is the Canadian way.
