Editor: My wife and I are new-comers to Lake Cowichan. We enjoy the paradise in which we live, and until this morning wondered why so many citizens are critical of their town council.
Municipalities and communities across this country flew their national flags at half-mast in honour of Jack Layton, who passed away August 22. I noted with dismay that our own council did not have the basic good manner to do so.
I am not an NDP supporter, but it matters not! The man was an honourable politician and a very great gentleman. Even our prime minister gave his respect. You could not find two men further apart on the political scale, yet Harper showed his grace and good breeding by giving respect where it was duly deserved.
Yet, here were are, in ‘paradise,’ and our council ignored the tragedy of losing a great man.
Is our council so devoid of good manners? Are they really that uneducated?
At present, I am ashamed to admit that I am a citizen of this beautiful community, which has been completely diminished by the lack of good manners by our council.
