Katimavik volunteers efforts valued at $150,000 in wages

This group learned a tremendous amount about themselves, community spirit, and how to develop their skill sets to lead the lives they desire

Thank you to the 12 spectacular Katimavik participants for their hard work and contribution to Hope over the past six months: Zachary Vandal (Québec), Matt Murray (PEI), Brittany Strong (Ontario), Michelle Leach (Ontario), Trevor O’Farrell (Ontario), Kevin Da Silva (Ontario), Carmyn Crawford (Ontario), Josee Ann Morissette (Québec), Audrey C. Rooney (Québec), Kassia Wynne (Nova Scotia), James Brazeau (British Columbia) and Adam Wolf (Alberta).

These young people, aged 17-21, arrived in Hope from all over the country to live together under the theme “Eco-Citizenship and Active Living” and carry out full-time volunteer work placements with non-profit organizations in our community.

Their volunteer efforts can be valued at approximately $150,000 in wages. In addition to their placements, the group also spent many evenings and weekends assisting with community events and fundraisers, building trails, cleaning lots, painting buildings, or testing their fitness.

This group learned a tremendous amount about themselves, community spirit, and how to develop their skill sets to lead the lives they desire. We are very excited to see what opportunities these young people seize next.

Another group of Katimavik youth will be arriving in Hope in January. If your organization is interested in providing a full-time volunteer work placement, please email hope@katimavik.org.

Submitted by Stephanie Hooker (Pathway Partners), Kelly Pearce (Hope Mountain Centre), Tyler Mattheis (Advantage Hope), and the District of Hope on behalf of all local benefiting organizations.
