Keep the border with the U.S. closed

I hope people will support the premier in saying that we must not open the borders to the States at this time. The pandemic is out of control in most states including Washington State.

A bi-partisan group of American Congress members has signed a letter demanding that we open our borders. The reaction online has been swift and loud against any move by our government to cave to their demands.

Opening our borders to make businesses happy would wipe out all the sacrifices that have been made which have kept B.C. one of the best success stories in suppressing the virus. Does anyone want us looking like Florida, Texas, other Republican states who put reopening their economies ahead of public health? Those states are now having to shut down again putting them back to square one.

The EU has banned Americans from traveling there and those allowed in must go into quarantine for 14 days.

We need to follow Europe’s lead and not become a pariah among states like America has become with its most unfit for the office ever, President Trump. Justin Trudeau has his flaws but thanks to him following sound medical and scientific advice we are getting through this pandemic, albeit slowly.

As each letter to the editor represents, on average, 5,000 people statistically, Mr. Premier, consider that you have the support to keep our borders closed of 5,000 people just with my letter alone.

Lastly, don’t be a Trump, wear your face mask in all enclosed spaces and where social distancing is not possible.
