Kudos to local heroes

Locals step up to help after serious car accident.

Dear editor,

To the People of Port Alice, Port Hardy and Port McNeill:

On July 12 my husband and I were in a very serious car accident at the junction of Campbell Way and Highway 19. We were travelling to Port McNeill to attend the annual Lions picnic.

We were definitely being watched over that day, as right behind us was a firefighter from the Port McNeill Fire Department who called in the accident and helped us out.  There was a woman from Woss who stayed with us for about five hours. The paramedics that helped us were wonderful. And of course our Lions and Lioness ‘family’ that helped us throughout the weekend.

Truly, everyone was a hero for us that day. It reinforced to us the huge hearts that people have in small communities. You helped us, you cared for us and you supported us in our time of need. We are recovering slowly.

We want to thank you all who helped us whether you are a Lion, Lioness or just someone special from the community.

Thank you from us,

Steve and Dori Somerset
