It’s easy to say that a lot of people agree with you, but even if it appears to be true, is it really?
This question was brought up during a recent Advisory Planning Commission meeting, during which time the J.H. Boyd property owner and a representative from the Lake Cowichan Ratepayers’ Association both appeared as delegates, official and unofficial, to discuss the future of the P-1 zoned property.
Both parties felt that they represented the majority of Lake Cowichan taxpayers, and neither was subjectively lying.
Have you ever presented your biased case to someone without providing them the other side of the coin, and then ask them if they agree with you or not? They’re bound to blindly agree, at least for the purposes of the conversation. Most people don’t like confrontation unless it’s an issue close to their hearts.
The back and forth argument about the future of the J.H. Boyd property between the Ratepayers’ Association and the developers seems to be just that; a back and forth between the two parties.
The only group of people that truly represent the residents of Lake Cowichan are the councillors taxpayers have elected. The opinions of the Lake Cowichan Ratepayers’ Association is just that – the opinions of the members. Extrapolating their opinion onto others is an insult to the local political system.
