Lake needs to speak up for all species

Lake, a veterinarian by profession, took an oath to uphold as required the welfare of all animals

Editor, The Times:

How ironic that Terry Lake, Liberal MLA for Kamloops-North Thompson and the province’s health minister, spoke recently at the Species at Risk exhibition in Kamloops.

Lake’s government, led by Premier Christy Clark, shows little or no concern for the state of B.C.’s vanishing wildlife and habitat as evidenced by its supporting and condoning of clearcut logging, construction of the Site C Dam, questionable mining practices and out of control real-estate development.

Trophy hunting of grizzly bears (a threatened species), a five-year program of shooting wolves from helicopters and water pollution affecting salmon population are other examples of the indifference of Lake’s government with regard to our province’s finite wildlife.

Lake, a veterinarian by profession, took an oath to uphold as required the welfare of all animals.

Perhaps he needs to be more vocal in his support of B.C. wildlife within his caucus in Victoria before more species are lost to extinction.
