Land purchase not needed

Resident opposes the possible acquisition of land next to BX Ranch Park

There seems to be a need to set the record straight on behalf of the many users of the BX Ranch Park dog park regarding the recent proposal by the BX-Swan Lake Community Association to demand taxpayers purchase the ranch lands above our beloved park.

We are not involved in this. We are very happy with the existing park and take great pride in care-taking what has become the most utilized park in the district.

There are over a hundred walkers using the park on many days, and this occurs from early morning to early evening every day of the year.

Through informal discussions, I have not heard any of these users supporting the association’s campaign and many suggest there are a number of more important items to be dealt with, i.e., water quality, the sports facility and the museum and art gallery before spending $3.2 million for the BX Ranch as a green space.

There have even been positive comments for its designated “rural residential” development that would generate taxes on each property as well as the development of a park as part of any subdivision due to existing bylaws.
